Anola's own Corey Koskie has been chosen to represent Canada in the World Baseball Classic and his parents, Leonard and Maryann Koskie, couldn't be more proud.
"We're excited for him, it's very exciting," Maryann Koskie said, asked how it felt to know her son would be presenting his country, she added, "It feels very good. He's done this one other time, he played for Team Canada."
Koskie has been working with the Minnesota Twins, the team he played for from 1999 until 2004. He played for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2005 before joining the Twins in 2006. It was with the Twins that he suffered a concussion on July 5, 2006 – an injury he's still dealing with the effects of.
"I hope he gets to play and I hope he enjoys himself," his mother added.
Koskie will report to Team Canada's training camp this weekend. He was a lifetime .275 hitter with 124 home runs, 506 runs batted in and 516 runs scored in 989 games over nine Major League Baseball seasons.
